i've setup homepipe on my web-server-machine and attached 2 usb hdds to it. now i can stream mp3s from those disks to my phone. but other files, including my videos, have to be downloaded. downloading a 1gb movie before watching it on a phone is crazy. for now at least.

i've also attempted to use vlc to stream the videos. on my 1st attempt, it didnt work. maybe next time. and the app called vlc stream and remote or something like only works thru lan not wan.

anyway, trying to make anime stream over wan to my phone will be an ongoing thing..i shld be exploring vlc more first...

the other stuff i'm also exploring is vnc and rdp control of my pc from the phone.

and i'm curious whether i can use an android vnc client to control a machine running gbridge, which uses vnc... or do i have to use realvnc or tightvnc...

and lastly, gladinet is an interesting app that allows you to mount your ms skydrive, google apps, gmail, picassa storage(as well as more serious stuff like s3,atmos,azure,webdav,ftp storage locations) as folders in a drive...wonder if there'd be a phone app next time?

for now i have homepipe to access the drives at home, and also dropbox and zumodrive...but wonder if more could be done...

starving artists II

as a follow up to Hollywood Accounting, this is Recording Industry Accounting. Artists are not starving because you download the music and don't buy the CD.

starving artists..

and ,

not as if buying anything will get the artist paid..seems a good bet it does keep the production firm paid and thats all.

and, its still cheaper to steal a cd than to copyright-infringe on it..

i don't really mind if i could attach my ultron to my desire.. - someone please sell me a m42 mount + tripod for my htc desire for less than $100!!!

i suspect that both android phones and iphones haven't really reached the business market? its still dominated by blackberry? and perhaps by symbian outside the usa and supplemented by windows mobile?

in time to come(especially given the pace of development), android will gain acceptance there, being open and all that. meanwhile, its anybody's guess what apple is going to do for that market.

its possible that in the future a whole class of workers will be carrying android phones, because they're somewhat cooler than blackberrys, and because corporate i.t. supports them.

meanwhile, because its free(as in beer), theres probably a new android device being launched in china every day. who knows how big the chinese android market will become? and when will they start exporting cheap android phones in numbers? lenovo already has their lephone; but who knows if one or more of the chinese manufacturers would find acceptance worldwide and grow into a international brand like lenovo? zte and huawei are already huge, but have little consumer may do it for them perhaps?

i suspect blackberry and nokia are probably going to be vulnerable to android's growth into their markets, if future versions bring enterprise features that only blackberry and symbian now have. and also for nokia, android's attractiveness to low cost manufacturers may be a threat to their low end symbian phones.

but iphones will probably never become marginalised, because android will never be as cool and will never appeal to the kids and the ladies as much.
a good read into the disclosure vs security-through-obscurity debate, which has been going on for a few hundred years already, since the day we invented the padlock and the occupation of the locksmith.
fyi, info on security software 'market' shares..

just what the fuck is wrong with old people???!

"What is happening to our young
people? They disrespect their elders, they disobey their parents. They
ignore the law. They riot in the streets inflamed with wild notions.
Their morals are decaying. What is to become of them?" - Plato

I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on
the frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless
beyond words.
When I was a boy, we were taught to be discrete and respectful of
elders, but the present youth are exceedingly wise and impatient of
--- Hesiod, Eighth Century B.C.

The world is passing through troublous times. The young people of
today think of nothing but themselves. They have no reverence for
parents or old age. They are impatient of all restraint. They talk as
if they knew everything, and what passes for wisdom with us is
foolishness with them.As for the girls, they are forward, immodest
and unladylike in speech, behavior and dress."
